The doughnut making workshop at Bread Ahead in Wembley was easy to get to. The jubilee line takes you to Wembley Park, where you cross over the road and head towards the iconic Wembley stadium. Bread ahead is situated two thirds of the way up Wembley way on the right hand side.
When you enter, you are in the Restaurant from where you are collected and taken upstairs to the cookery school to meet your host and teacher which on this occasion was the lovely Kyle. He explained the process we were going to go through in the next couple of hours and then we got down to the business of Doughnut making. We added wet ingredients to the dry ingredients that had already been weighed and began to make the dough.
Kyle helped us with the technique of rolling our dough into 6 equally sized balls, which then proved, whilst we were invited to have coffee and a delicious chocolate brownie, whilst with the aid of a couple of participants made the fillings for the doughnuts, raspberry Jam and Vanilla cream. We placed our proved dough balls in a hot oil fryer and fried for 2 minutes, turned and fried again. After 4 minutes I had 6 almost perfect doughnuts. They were cooled, rolled in sugar, a hole pierced with a knife and the sweet fillings piped inside our fresh warm dough balls. The result 6 lovely doughnuts boxed ready to be devoured later that day. A good excuse to invite friends round to try your doughnuts.
A thoroughly enjoyable 2 hours in the company of 8 other like minded people. The course was well organised and delivered. This would be fun doing with a friend or even a small group of people.
Kyle offered e mail support and his Instagram page as well as a goodie bag with your doughnuts and some dough you had made to make more at home. You were e mailed the recipe immediately, so it was not necessary to make any notes as you went. There was a lot of information thrown your way on the day so this would be very handy for future reference.
By the way, when I finally got to eat them at home they were as delicious as they looked.
